Cameron Shaffer is the Assistant Pastor of North Oaks Community Church
in Clarkston, and will be speaking at this year's conference on The Good News of Scripture's
Authority. We asked him some questions so you could get to know him
better:
What’s
your wife’s name, how long have you been married, and how many children do you
have?
Lauren & I will be married two years
this December, no kids.
Share a little about your educational background.
Education: B.A, Midwestern State University (International
Studies, Political Science); M.Div, Redeemer Theological Seminary; M.Th, The
University of Glasgow (technically, I'll graduate in November).
How
long have you been in your current position?
I've been at North Oaks since August,
2016.
What
have been some of the best lessons you’ve learned in your role as a
pastor/teacher and who are some of your greatest spiritual influences?
Sinclair
Ferguson, Edward Reynolds, Herman Bavinck, Herman Ridderbos, B.B. Warfield,
John Calvin, my parents, and seminary professors have been my greatest influences.
As for lesson learned: Don't underestimate
the ordinary means of grace.
What
would you most like your church to be known for?
Being committed to the gospel, knowing
the Bible, and reaching others in word and deed.
If
you could spend an entire day with one person of your choosing from the Bible
(not including Jesus), who would you choose and why?
Solomon, because he served
both as a huge culmination of the Old Testament, and the start of decay. I
would love to get his perspective on that.
What
are some of your hobbies/interests apart from the Bible/theology?
Reading, scuba diving, spending time with friends
and family.
